4.13 Green House Gases

Understand how human activities contribute to greenhouse gases.

Human Activity : Burning fossil fuels in industrial + domestic +cars  creates ---> CO2, NO2, SO2 (green house gases)

Farming Activity: Animals in digestion of crops (cows) release methane gas to the atmosphere with an estimated 9%.

Clouds: The evaporation of water, creates water vapor. Clouds absorb long wavelength (infrared) radiation from the surface of the Earth & radiate some of it back down.

Refrigerators ( industrial solvents ): Contain CFC'S (harmful chemicals) which cause another breakdown of the ozone layer that protects the earth from the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

"About 50% greenhouse effect is caused by water vapor, 25% by the clouds, and 20% by the carbon dioxide and the remaining by other greenhouse gases."
